Shaw and Partners Financial Services has appointed a NSW state manager to lead its Sydney-based team, alongside several financial adviser appointments from Ord Minnett.

The financial advice firm has appointed Chris Smith as its state manager for NSW, who joins from Macquarie Group where he spent 23 years at the firm.

He was most recently the division director of Macquarie Private Bank and worked in other senior positions, such as the NSW state manager for wealth management.

Smith takes over from Fiona Burton, who previously held the NSW state manager position at Shaw and Partners for just over a year. Burton left the role to join investment manager Harper Bernays.

George Deva, national head of private wealth at Shaw and Partners, welcomed Smith to the firm: “I am delighted to have Chris join us as NSW state manager after an extensive career spanning nearly 25 years at Macquarie Group both here and overseas. Chris brings with him a wealth of management experience and expertise, and I look forward to working closely with Chris to grow our business.”

This is one of several advice appointments that Shaw and Partners has made to its Sydney advice team over recent weeks.

Most recently, the company welcomed Nathan Charteris as a senior private wealth adviser. He joins from Ord Minnett where he spent nearly three years as a private client adviser.

Commenting on the appointment, Deva said: “Nathan brings over 20 years of financial markets experience to servicing the current and ongoing investment needs of his clients. With his professional and personable approach, I am delighted he has chosen Shaw and Partners as his home to further his career and service his clients.”

The firm also appointed Stephen Donohoe as a senior private wealth adviser and Luke Herzog as a private wealth adviser.

Both Donohoe and Herzog also joined Shaw and Partners from Ord Minnett. Donohoe spent over 23 years at the firm as a senior investment adviser, while Herzog was there for seven years, most recently as an associate private wealth adviser.

“Stephen and Luke bring with them over 30 years of combined markets experience and have used that over their careers to help clients with their personal investment needs,” Deva said.
