Leeson, who as a Singapore-based derivatives trader for the UK’s Barings Bank in the early ‘nineties accumulated losses of more than US$1 billion, causing the bank’s collapse in 1995, has been recruited by GDP Partners to provide advice to struggling borrowers, Reuters has reported.
“His experience and background will add significant value to what we are trying to achieve on behalf of our clients,” GDP Partners said in the statement.
Leeson spent three years in a Singaporean jail before authoring the book Rogue Trader, which was subsequently turned into a feature film starring Ewan McGregor.
