PPS Mutual adds 2 senior hires

Mutual life insurance firm PPS Mutual announced the appointments of two new chief medical officers on Wednesday.

Dr John Cummins and Dr Bill Monday step into the roles, tasked with providing technical medical guidance to the life underwriting, product development and claims services.

Alongside this, they will offer assistance to the underwriting department in conducting underwriting reviews of life insurance applications and giving input on internal guidelines.

Dr Cummins’ over 37 years of experience in medicine was highlighted as key to his hire. He has been leveraging this within the insurance field since 2005, consulting on the risk of and prognosis for illness within underwriting and claims assessment.

Dr Monday’s hire comes after over 30 years in the medical field. He has been utilising this within insurance medicine for over 20 years.

“It is vital that we have experts on hand to stay abreast of medical science and give appropriate advice to the team,” said Marcello Bertasso, head of underwriting at PPS Mutual.

“Dr Cummins and Dr Monday bring a wealth of specialist medical skill and knowledge, and we are confident that their expertise will help provide our members with additional security and peace of mind.”

The firm’s life risk insurance products are fitted to the protection needs of its professional members, which include medical professionals.

The hires are said to be critical in ensuring PPS is successful in such efforts.

The appointment of Dr Cummins and Dr Monday continue PPS’ growth of staff in 2021, following the hire of Rory-John Jacobs as BDM, joining from AIA, in May.

The PPS business model is to offer life insurance with profit share, alongside the distribution of its profit to members.
