In a statement, the FSC and AFCA said Jan McCLelland would step into the role of chair of the Life Code Compliance Committee (LCCC).
Ms McCLelland replaces previous chair Anne Brown, who stepped down earlier this year.
She is a current deputy chancellor of the University of New England, chair of the Gateway Network Governance Body and a member of the advisory board of the NSW Circular Economy Innovation Network.
“Ms McClelland has extensive experience in industry codes of practice, and has served on audit and risk committees in legal, health and local government sectors,” the two bodies said.
“The LCCC has an important role in monitoring the effectiveness of the life code and therefore supporting good industry practice,” AFCA chief executive David Locke said.
“Ms McClelland will bring deep and diverse experience to the leadership of the committee.”
“I am pleased to welcome Ms McClelland to the LCCC and look forward to working closely with her in ensuring the life insurance code of practice delivers for Australian consumers,” FSC chief executive Sally Loane said.
“I would also like to thank Anne Brown for her contribution to the committee during her time as chair.”
AFCA currently provides the secretariat services for the LCCC, which is comprised of one industry representative, one consumer representative and the chair.

oooh yeh….sit back and strap in everyone, this is gonna be good….
Good luck in the role , but maybe too late. What point is there for a code of practice in an industry fast being being eroded by unrealistic price increases, Rocketing IP claims, declining sales and increased compliance burden on advisers to even bring insurance into the recommendations? Does duty of care include selection of self-insurance as a strategy where 50% pa IP premium increases make cover unsustainable in context of other goals being achieved?
Another quota box ticked. When will this industry nightmare end? The answer is that while they continue crush the structure of the industry, they neuter our old associations and what is left of us are working way too hard to stop and help ourselves. Gloves are off. It’s time for us to all fall in behind the AIOFP. If we don’t slug our way out of this in a hurry then we will have nothing to protect.
why do they insist on having academics on these thing who have no idea how our industry works. Just because they have a degree they think they are smart. Most of them couldn’t get a job in the real world, never run a business
Great….. another academic
