New finance careers hub tipped to attract advisers

A new platform created for people seeking a career in financial planning has been launched to help channel new talent in the sector.

Finni, a careers platform launched in June 2019 by Momentum Media sister company Archer Platforms, aims to help people make the right decisions when looking for a career in the financial services industry.

The digital platform, which particularly targets financial planners, provides a host of tools and information to help Australians better understand which path to take, as well as connecting them with relevant wealth firms that are recruiting.

According to the platform creators, a key feature of the site is the salary guide, which helps visitors establish which area of financial planning they would like to work in – and what pay they can expect. This is then broken down on a state-by-state basis to give an accurate benchmark to jobseekers.

The new website has reportedly seen month-on-month traffic growth since its launch in June and saw more than 100,000 visits in July 2019.

Digital director Blair Dods said that Finni helps companies share their core values, culture and employee experience to get the attention of like-minded talent.

He added that this is important as jobseekers are increasingly relying on a company’s digital footprint to understand how a company’s values align with their own.

“A Finni profile offers a deeper look into whether this is the type of place they would want to work,” Mr Dods said.

“It will give financial services firms access to a new digital touchpoint to engage new people in brand safe environments, shifting the mindset towards nurturing careers rather than simple ‘churn and burn’ recruitment.”

Mr Dods said Finni is on a rapid growth trajectory and is attracting people from all stages of their finance career, whether just starting out or looking to switch finance professions.

He added that Finni is positioning itself as the first port of call for those wishing to start a career in financial planning.

“Finni attracts people to the industry, helps them narrow down their career options, and then assists them in getting trained and then finding a job,” said Mr Dods.

“Once they are qualified, Finni assists them in advancing their career by connecting candidates with ongoing training and development.”

Mr Dods said that while traditional job boards are more suited for people who know exactly what they’re looking for, Finni will focus on guiding uncertain jobseekers into a career in finance.

“The two offerings are complementary, and Finni will help employers reach the 60 per cent of people that aren’t actively looking but are open to moving into a new position,” he said.

“By crafting and amplifying an authentic employer brand, the company and prospective candidates are both winners. Finni captures, and amplifies, employees’ stories, bringing them to life through authentic and compelling photos and videos.”

To any newbie, I warn you against being an adviser.

You carry most of the responsibility and liability, while employers and auditors lord it over you.

Try and do the right thing, and you’ll be accused of not looking after your employer. Look after your employer, and of course you may be (rightly) accused of not looking after your client’s best interests. And noone will have an issue at having a crack at you or your reputation, when their own pockets are at stake.

It’s a damn mess. No wage is worth it.
