Returning for the sixth consecutive year, Momentum Media’s New Broker Academy is aimed at both new brokers looking to ignite their broking capacity, and prospective brokers looking to break into the industry.

Hosted by ifa’s sister publication The Adviser, The New Broker Academy 2022 will take place as an in-person event on 6, 8, and 13 September in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne, respectively.

Run with the support of principal partner and technology provider NextGen, the academy is designed to arm new and prospective brokers with the strategies, skills, and knowledge to grow and succeed in their first three years of being a mortgage broker.

With a record-breaking proportion of borrowers accessing mortgages through the broker channel, and with strong demand for credit advice to help borrowers navigate the changing economic environment, there has never been a better time for new brokers to enter the industry and build a thriving brokerage.

After the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) increased interest rates for the first time in over a decade – causing lenders to subsequently hike rates on their loan products – both new and existing borrowers are turning to the third-party channel for credit advice to better understand their options.

It is during these times of turbulence and change that the instrumental role of the broker channel in providing mortgage and credit advice, as well as emotional support and gentle reassurance – is amplified.

Key to a broker’s ability to provide client-facing advice and support is having a well-oiled brokerage.

What the New Broker Academy 2022 will deliver

To meet the growing needs and demand for the services provided by brokers, the New Broker Academy will equip new brokers with the mindset, tangible strategies, and industry connections required for their brokerages to flourish.

As the choice of technological tools and lending products increase, the time is also ripe for brokers to upskill and propel their brokerages, while attracting new clients.

The event will offer brokers the blueprint to building and launching a successful business, along with the marketing strategies that are essential to generating more leads and maximising return on investment.

Alongside this, it will provide solid sales fundamentals and tips on how to attract and convert a high percentage of client enquiries.

Brokers will learn how to diversify their leads funnel by forming strong referral partnerships with financial professionals with similar goals and brand alignment (while avoiding common mistakes when establishing these partnerships).

New brokers will be treated to a session replete with tips on how to survive their first few years, capitalise on opportunities and avoid common pitfalls, and incorporate essential systems and processes to maximise efficiency.

Industry leaders to reveal recipes for success

Industry specialists will pull from their years of experience to unveil the recipes for success, and arm brokers with practical advice on how to build a strong brokerage.

The New Broker Academy will help brokers navigate the world of aggregators and the various models available in the market, the associated costs and remuneration structures (fee versus commission split), and how to choose a model that meets their requirements.

It also includes an interactive session with different lenders, where brokers can learn and ask questions about how to choose and add new products to their offering and work effectively with lenders to gain fast and effective client outcomes.

Speakers include:

Association leaders – Peter White, managing director of the Finance Brokers Association of Australia (FBAA), will unpack the role of associations in the broking industry, and how professional standards are the cornerstone of the robust broker value proposition.

Broker coaches  –  Broker Profits Vault CEO and founder James Veigli, and Success and Broker business coach Ruan Burger will outline the key steps needed to build a strong brokerage

Marketing specialists – business growth specialist at Attraction Marketing Dilek Saticieli will provide brokers with the top 10 effective marketing techniques for brokers to position their business their growth from the beginning

Brokerage heads – Finni CEO Paul Glossop, as well as leading brokers from the local markets

Commenting on this year’s New Broker Academy, NextGen head of broker partnerships Renee Blethyn said the technology solutions provider is “proud” to be a principal partner of the event.

She said: “New Broker Academy offers a great opportunity for new brokers to connect with key industry professionals, engage with other new and prospective brokers and gain the knowledge and skills to succeed.

“The first two years in this industry are the hardest so initiatives like the New Broker Academy are a fantastic avenue to educate and empower new entrants right from the start.

“In order for the industry to be robust and sustainable in the long-term, we need to support new brokers. By helping them set up best practices and efficient systems, they can reach their revenue point faster, submit more applications and build a thriving business.”

The New Broker Academy 2022 will take place in the following locations:

  • 6 September: Rydges South Bank, Brisbane, Queensland
  • 8 September: Montage, Sydney, NSW; and
  • 13 September: Crown Melbourne, Victoria.
