The Independent Financial Advisers Association of Australia (IFAAA) has announced the theme of its 2016 annual symposium will be professionalism and how advisers can benefit.

In a statement, the IFAAA said its third annual national symposium will be held in Brisbane on 28 October and will focus on “the road to professionalism”.

The event is open both to existing and “up-and-coming” financial advisers who are seeking clarity on how to be recognised as professionals.

“Being conflict free, we believe, is just the starting point to being a professional,” IFAAA president Daniel Brammall said, “and this year’s symposium will unpack just what it takes to become recognised as a genuine professional in this industry.”

The event will include speakers from other industries who will share their perspectives on being professionals, the statement said.

“We believe [there is] a vast mindset difference between financial advisers who call themselves professional and those who the public, the media and the law regard as professional,” Mr Brammall said.

“So we have called on professionals from other industries to impart their knowledge and explain what they’ve learned as they relive their walk down the road to professionalism.”
