IExtend has announced the promotion of Mark Stubbings to the newly created position of head of alliances.

The life insurer said this week that the new role aims to “facilitate industry and association collaboration and pioneer connection pathways for a unique life insurance option”.

Mr Stubbings previously worked as iExtend’s Queensland distribution manager and was promoted due to his work alongside licensees and advice practices.

The new role will involve heavy collaboration with other industry stakeholders, while also helping to build iExtend’s presence, which only launched this past March.

Prior to his time at iExtend, Mr Stubbings previously worked at Sunsuper for five years and Aware Super.

“Mark is an insurance professional and his capacity to engage and bring the industry together on key issues has no boundaries,” iExtend CEO David Sarkis said.

“We look forward to expanding on these strengths in his new role and building on the collaborative nature of our offering.”

Following its launch earlier this year, Mr Sarkis said the company had a key focus to address a “gap” in the life insurance market.

IExtend pledged to provide life insurance policyholders who are committed to cancelling their policies with another option, saying it will save Australians billions of dollars of cover forgone every year.

The company also estimated that it will return approximately $25 million to $50 million in life insurance claim benefits over the next 10 years to Australians.

In April, the company announced a number of new appointments, including former CEO of MLC and Perpetual Geoff Lloyd as its inaugural chair of the advisory board.

“IExtend represents an opportunity for the insurance industry to demonstrate its innovation and commitment to being there for Australians, by providing life insurance policyholders who are committed to cancelling their policies with another option,” Mr Lloyd said.

Former Bankers Trust Australia director, Rodney Payne, was also confirmed as iExtend’s chairman.
