Prime Minister Scott Morrison declared the cabinet reshuffle on Friday, commenting he had aimed to bring forward new talent to aid the nation’s recovery from the pandemic.
Among other changes to the cabinet, senator Jane Hume will be taking on expanded responsibilities for superannuation and financial services in her new role, which will also cover the digital economy.
“The digital transformation package was a key component of the most recent budget. It was something I highlighted last year, as one of the key areas for our job-making economic plan for Australia,” Mr Morrison said.
“And it has become even more important as we emerge from the COVID-19 recession.”
Ms Hume was appointed to the role of Assistant Minister for Superannuation, Financial Services and Financial Technology in 2019.

The bar must be set quite low these days.
She is pretty good.
Pretty good at telling lies. Hume said that getting rid of FASEA would deliver on Hayne’s recommendation for a single disciplinary body. It has done nothing of the sort. FASEA’s functions are just being shuffled elsewhere. There is no net reduction to the huge number of regulatory agencies limiting advisers’ ability to provide affordable, professional advice. And there is no rectification of FASEA’s unworkable Standard 3.
Hume has achieved nothing of significance for Australians. The only thing she has achieved is a promotion for herself. One wonders how.
