Coller Capital launches secondaries education platform for advisers

A private market secondaries manager has unveiled a new education platform to improve advisers’ and investors’ understanding of secondaries, as demand for private assets continues to grow.

Coller Capital has announced the launch of the Secondaries Institute, a digital platform designed to give advisers, investors and any other relevant parties the tools and education needed to navigate the space effectively.

This comes off the back of mounting interest in private markets, particularly among high-net-worth (HNW) investors looking for new opportunities to diversify their portfolios.

According to the firm, secondaries are playing a key role in delivering “liquidity, diversification and price discovery” to investors in this space.

Looking at 2024, secondaries reportedly turned over some $160 billion in transaction volume, marking a 40 per cent increase on the previous year.

“Though the secondaries market is a small proportion of the overall market, Coller believes it remains undercapitalised,” the firm said.

With demand for secondaries expected to grow, according to the firm, this education platform will deliver regularly updated content, such as videos, commentary and a comprehensive glossary of relevant terms, with the aim of giving advisers and their clients the tools to utilise secondaries effectively in their portfolios.

Jake Elmhirst, Coller Capital partner and head of Private Wealth Secondaries Solutions (PWSS), said many advisers are now coming to recognise the value of secondaries as a strategic tool for the modern HNW investor, noting the value of ensuring advisers have access to reliable sources of education on this space.

“With this platform, we’re arming advisers with what they need to engage their clients with confidence. Our firm has spent three decades shaping the secondaries market, and we’re proud to make that experience more accessible,” Elmhirst said.

Following the launch of its global PWSS business in 2023, Coller Capital said this new digital tool will help support future growth for the business.

According to the firm, the PWSS business has raised nearly $4 billion in private wealth assets globally since its inception.
