In a statement to the market on Wednesday, Centrepoint said it had appointed former BT general manager of platforms and investments John Shuttleworth to the role of chief executive.

The group said Mr Shuttleworth had overseen the development of BT’s low-cost Super for Life product and initiated a large-scale transformation for BT Panorama during his time at the wealth giant.

“We are pleased to attract an executive of the calibre of John to lead the company,” Centrepoint chair Alan Fisher said.

“Over the last three years Centrepoint Alliance has focused on building and strengthening our licensee services through a period of significant industry change. John will lead the company through our next phase of growth as we focus on expanding our service offering and digitising key services.”

“Having the opportunity to lead Centrepoint Alliance through the next phase of growth is a privilege,” Mr Shuttleworth said.

“Over the last few months I have had an opportunity to consult with the board and senior executive team. I have been impressed by the calibre and professionalism of Centrepoint Alliance executives and their passion for advice.”

The group said it had appointed more than 70 new authorised representatives for the 2021 financial year, which it said ranked it first in the industry for adviser growth.

Interesting move appointing someone whom is well known for not valuing advice. He pitched Panorama within BT by building a direct to client platform.

100% #areyoukidding. My first thought too. Why on earth do licensees keep hiring CEOs who have a demonstrated reputation to be against advice or who have never had any experience of being an adviser at all. Let alone any advice quals. Let alone ever sat in front of a client. Seriously???? Just a never ending conga-line of “transformation” gurus who are really just glorified project managers.

To answer this question in part, have a look at the qualifications (or lack thereof) of the Group Executive Advice Solutions at this business.
