The campaign has been successful in convincing Toronto city councillors to scrap plans for a casino in the town of Sudbury and is now aiming to regulate “slots” at local venues.
Yawney told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation that her career as a financial planner and engagement with clients has alerted her to the plight of problem gamblers.
“I’ve seen the detrimental effects that gambling has on people’s finances, on their families, on society as whole,” she said. “I’m just really opposed to it.”




Running the Mission allowed me to see up close the full extent of the false hope that gambling can bring.
Who of us wouldn’t like to discover that tomorrow we were the beneficiaries of easy money. Bills paid – fun times available… We’d all be foolish to not want it… at what cost? So many people who do even little time gambling flush the end of their money in hopes of tiny fortunes – profits that just don’t pay off. A lot less money to end the month with.
Sad hopes. Fake dreams. This little picture is quite vivid on the front lines. There are so many photos to come.
There are better ways to seek for community advancement.
