BT celebrates 10 years of Panorama

BT Panorama, the winner of Platform of the Year at the 2024 Australian Wealth Management Awards, celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. As we celebrate this milestone, we reflect on the past decade—a period of transformation in the wealth management industry marked by regulatory shifts, technological advancements, and evolving investor preferences.

The industry is always evolving, and BT continues to embrace the future, striving to help shape the next decade of financial advice and empowering advisers to enable quality financial advice to thrive.

Innovation and industry trends

We have a rich history of innovation. BT introduced the first Wrap products, which made superannuation easier to access with products like BT Super for Life, were an early adopter of managed accounts (with over 400 managed portfolios now on BT Panorama), the first to remove grandfathering payments, and took a leading role in educating Australians about investing and investment options through a range of educational events, marketing activities, seminars, and online resources.

We have also been bold, backing our people to make decisions, be accountable, and drive change. Nowhere is that more evident than in the development of the BT Panorama platform.

At the heart of BT is our commitment to great service and that requires great people who operate with empathy, skill, confidence, and who value relationships.

The importance of service

We are continually focused on creating efficiencies for advisers through improved reporting and functionality, an extensive range of managed account solutions, and providing exceptional customer service and support.

Clients expect immediate access to information and the ability to interact with our platform. However, in the moments that matter, we are seeing that many clients and their advisers still value and expect a more personalised service experience.

At BT, our approach is people-led, tech-enabled. We continue to invest in technology, while maintaining our service team’s high standards on response and turnaround times. One example of where we have chosen to invest in digital tools is our service request tracker, available 24/7, providing advisers and clients with real-time updates on the status of their requests such as applications, deposits and contributions, rollovers, and transfers.

We developed the service request tracker following feedback from advisers and investors. The enhancement has allowed our teams to focus on more complex queries, or those that are more customer sensitive. Looking forward, we plan to expand the functionality of the service tracker and believe this is a space that the whole industry will continue to invest in.

The future ahead

As technological landscapes evolve, so too must wealth management platforms adapt to meet the evolving needs of advisers and clients.

We see this playing out in three ways:

1) Meeting the need for greater transparency

2) Tailoring services to changing population needs, and

3) Delivering an increase in managed accounts and artificial intelligence (AI) support tools to improve efficiencies for advisers and organisations.

For a decade, BT Panorama has focused on the adviser experience, evolving into one of Australia’s leading investment platforms and the only one owned by Australia’s first bank.

Now, as we look to the future, we’re introducing initiatives to support the industry and its people, advocating for advice, championing diversity and investing in the next generation of advisers.
