On Thursday, the Financial Services Council (FSC) announced the appointment of AMP chief executive officer Alexis George and BT Financial Group CEO Matt Rady to its board.

Ms George, who was appointed AMP CEO in August 2021, has amassed more than 30 years of experience in the financial services industry both in Australia and abroad.

Prior to AMP, she spent seven years at ANZ, including most recently as deputy CEO, and 10 years with ING Group, where she held senior roles with responsibility for banking, insurance, funds management, product, marketing, technology, and operations.

Mr Rady, who took the reins at BT in October 2021, has more than 30 years of experience in the financial services and wealth industries.

He has previously held executive roles in a range of companies including Macquarie Group and IRESS. Prior to joining BT, Mr Rady served as CEO at Allianz Retire+.

“Alexis and Matt are senior industry leaders that bring to the board extensive financial services industry experience that will further strengthen the FSC’s advocacy for the industry and its consumers on key policy and regulatory issues,” said FSC chairman David Bryant.

“Alexis and Matt share the FSC’s commitment to a more competitive, efficient and consumer-focused financial services sector that delivers high-quality service, financial advice, and wealth products for Australian consumers.”

Commenting on her appointment, Ms George said: “Joining the FSC board is an opportunity to represent AMP’s customers and to ensure our industry, regulators, and government are working together to achieve the best possible financial outcomes for all Australians.”

Meanwhile, Mr Rady said: “I am delighted to be joining the FSC board and am looking forward to working with my fellow directors to support reforms that shape the future of financial services in Australia.”

Other members of the FSC board include AllianceBernstein (AB) Australia CEO Jen Driscoll, Bell Asset Management CEO Nick Fels, Challenger MD and CEO Nick Hamilton, Insignia Financial CEO Renato Mota, UBS Asset Management (Australia) country head Australasia Alison Telfer, and Macquarie Group executive director, head of wealth management, Sean West.

Additionally, Kelly Power, the CEO of Colonial First State Superannuation, joined the FSC board in May.
