In a statement released on Tuesday, the insurer said by utilising UHG’s medEbridge technology platform, it planned to improve integration within its end-to-end claims and underwriting process, as part of a broader push from AIA to improve transparency and speed for customers.

The platform currently services more than 50,000 healthcare providers and 9,500 business users.

AIA Australia and New Zealand chief executive Damien Mu said the partnership was an exciting one for the insurer given the opportunities it presented for the group to improve its back-end technology.

“The medEbridge platform will streamline the administrative processes involved with the management of new business applications and claims, in support of AIA Australia’s continuous efforts to improve the experience of our customers,” Mr Mu said.

“This includes our recently announced innovation capability, which we’re developing with the support of the Victorian government.”

UHG chief executive Rob Farmer said the partnership made sense due to synergies between the two companies when it came to improving user experience.

“We know AIA Australia is always seeking to improve their customers’ experience – their innovative AIA Vitality offering more than demonstrates this,” Mr Farmer said.

“As they embrace the digitised future offered by the medEbridge platform, they’ll be able to deliver faster response times and decision-making to build even stronger consumer engagement.”

The insurer said CommInsure Life would also use the medEbridge platform following its joint cooperation agreement with AIA signed last year.
