The Adviser Games is back again in 2024, with the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) set to take part at events held next month in Melbourne and Sydney, as the team behind the event aims to expand its reach.
Co-creator of The Adviser Games, Conaill Keniry, told ifa they are thrilled to grow the event with the help of AFCA.
“AFCA has entered the games! We recently reached out to AFCA to join The Adviser Games and they were immediately enthusiastic to get involved and eager to connect and network with advisers,” Mr Keniry said.
“They are keen to help advisers understand their process and determinations, whilst reducing trepidation when it comes to complaints handling.”
The games will take place in Melbourne on 7 March, before moving to Sydney on 21 March.
“Through collaborative efforts, The Adviser Games aims to bring advisers and the wider industry together to foster an environment of mutual support and knowledge sharing, ultimately enhancing the proficiency and confidence of financial advisers and creating better outcomes for clients,” he said.
The Adviser Games were launched in 2023 with the aim to make professional development (PD) days more engaging and to create an environment where advisers can connect and share knowledge with each other.
“We asked our advisers and other advisers what they wanted out of PD days and industry events. It turns out what they’re looking for, yes, a little bit of education, but they really want interaction with other advisers,” Mr Keniry told ifa in October.
The games are an ‘Amazing Race’ style event where advisers and industry members are divided into teams and tasked with following clues and facing challenges together, all while engaging in professional development.
Overall, the inspiration behind creating the games was to provide an environment where advisers and industry members could create meaningful connections within the industry towards building a greater community of advisers.
“Advisers were coming up to us after the event, sort of saying, ‘Hey, I just spent six hours with these advisers I never have met, never would have met before and they’re now contacts that I’ll use for years to come’,” Mr Keniry said.
After the overwhelmingly positive response from advisers and business development managers at the inaugural event held in October, Mr Keniry discussed the possibility of going even bigger in the future.
“I’m thinking Adviser Olympics,” he said.
