Over 12,000 claims lodged as extreme weather continues

Insurance Australia Group (IAG) has confirmed it has received thousands more claims across its brand as heavy rain and flooding continues through parts of South-East Queensland and NSW.

As at Thursday, 3 March, the insurer reported over 12,000 claims for damage to homes, property and vehicles through NRMA Insurance, CGU Insurance and WFI.

It comes after 6,700 claims were confirmed as at Tuesday, 1 March.

“The priority right now is the safety of all the impacted communities,” IAG acting executive general manager direct claims, David Wilkes said.

“We have a dedicated major events team focused on providing immediate support for our customers, including temporary accommodation, and we have all hands on deck to make the process as quick and easy as possible.

"So please contact us as soon as you can, so we can help you with your claim and make sure you’re safe and secure."

Last week, the Insurance Council Of Australia (ICA) expanded its Insurance Catastrophe declaration - which prioritises claims from affected policyholders and triaged to direct urgent assistance to the worst-affected property owners – from Queensland to also include areas of NSW.
