TAL Risk Academy launches diabetes course

TAL has developed an education program to teach advisers about diabetes, noting that the illness costs the Australian economy “more than $6 billion per year”.

In a statement, the company said the new course will be run through the TAL Risk Academy and focus on understanding the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes, as well as the terminology used in underwriting and assessing claims.

TAL general manager for health services Sally Phillips said that educating advisers on diabetes will help end clients to “live their best life through good health”.

“Diabetes currently represents one of the most challenging public health problems of the 21st century, with the total cost for Australians with Type 2 diabetes amounting to more than $6 billion per year,” she said.

“This course aims to upskill advisers on the specifics of the medical condition so they can help their clients choose the right insurance cover for their situation at underwriting time and best support clients if they need to claim.”

Ms Phillips added that the course will also address “support mechanisms” provided by TAL to clients for diabetes-related claims.
